Under the sea…

13 Nov 2009

Yesterday the project theme was the ocean in the middle group. The kids learned about all the different creatures in the sea. Richard had red sticky felt that they cut into strips and attached to the side of their shirts as “gills”. They pretended they were all sharks. The youngest group focused on their rain forest, making different trees and animals that live in the jungle. The oldest group is playing “learn about my friend” where each day of the week they learn about one of their school mates. Yesterday it was Keanu’s turn!

It was also a Katie Dealy day at school – since we didn’t have school on Wednesday she came on Thursday instead. The kids were all dancing like underwater fishes. Here’s some information about Katie from the greenstreetstudios.org website:

Katie Dealy has taught dance and creative movement to children in the Boston area for many years. She was assistant director and teacher at Room for Children in Back Bay and taught for the Cambridge Performance Project before coming to Green Street Studios four years ago. Currently she also teaches at Newtowne and Agassiz pre-schools in Cambridge. Katie studies modern dance with Marcus Schulkind and Cheri Opperman at Green Street. She has a Masters Degree in Secondary Education from Simmons College and a Masters in Dance Education from George Washington University. Katie likes to use props and create storydances in her energetic and imaginative classes. She also loves teaching parent-child dance classes.
