The youngest group is working away at their gardens. The seeds they sowed a few weeks back have sprouted up, so now it’s time to transplant them. While waiting for them to grow bigger, they are working on creating their 3-D gardens – stop by and see!

The Middle Group kids have been working on their numbers this past week, all the way from 1 to 10. Today’s activity was to fill in the blocks on a strip of paper (10 total) and then draw in a picture of hands with the ten fingers outstretched. On the wall in the back room you’ll see all the numbers posted.

Ask the extended day kids what they’ve learned about whales so far. Tuesday they found out 4 things…
Daddy whale is called a BULL.
Mommy whale is called a COW.
A baby whale is called a CALF.
A whole bunch of whales swimming together is called a POD.
They painted large pieces of paper black which will they will be making into the giant school-long whale at some point. Also to come, more waves!

The oldest group has just finished the butterfly life cycle and have moved on to the life cycle of a frog, which includes:
Frog spawn
Tadpole
Polywog
Froglet
Frog
They will create projects to reflect each one of the frog stages of life. The focus will be on noticing differences between gills and lungs, the differences between frogs and toads, and the differences among frog species.

The oldest group has a live experiment – growing butterflies. Katie got some eggs and they’ve recently grown into the caterpillar stage. The kids learned that butterflies lay their eggs on the underside of leaves to protect them from predators. Katie made giant leaves from construction paper and the kids all cut out eggs to tape underneath them. Now that the caterpillars have hatched, they are preparing for the chrysalis stage by making ...
