The Chalkboard
The annual Agassiz Halloween party got off to an appropriately dramatic start when the power was cut off for the entire first hour. With promises from the city to re-instate power within half an hour, we waited….and waited…and ate…and drank…and squinted at kids (and parents) in fantastic costumes. Some kids were a bit scared and clingy, while others realized it was the perfect foil for un-chaperoned playtime and behaved as expected (read: crazy running, laughing, ...

Today Richard brought in a ton of little sequins. This may be old news to you, since your child is probably still covered in them. Shoes and arms seemed to be the biggest target, but of course the little faces were also covered. We also dug into the clay again today – clay worms seemed to be in vogue for some reason.

Yesterday’s project was teaching the kids about Clay. Richard brought out a super heavy box and asked everyone what they thought was inside. He opened it up and pulled out two HUGE blocks of brown clay. The clay blocks went around the circle so every kid could see how heavy they were – the kids giggled when it came to their turn and laughed as they pushed it off their laps and ...

Today was our annual parade through the streets of Cambridge! Well, one street really, just walking up and down Mass ave. We had been working on our costumes yesterday and today they were ready to wear. Inside school, everything looks super spooky. We took the kids over to the Porter Exchange parking lot today for a surprise. The had no idea why we were there. We walked over to the fence by the railroad tracks and that was exciting enough for alot of them. Then the commuter rail train came by and the kids all started jumping up and down. Some of them called it “the purple line.” We talked about the ...

Today gave the kids paper pumpkin cutouts to decorate. We talked about the color orange and things that are orange…like pumpkins! Then the kids decorated them with different shapes – squares, triangles and more. They had fun using the glue and did a great job decorating their work. They took the pumpkins home to their parents. Hope you like them!

So we had all those apples from apple picking, so we decided that a fun activity with the kids would be to make applesauce! The kids got to cut some of the apples themselves, which they were very proud of. Then we cooked it in the kitchen. It was too hot to eat today, so we will probably have it for Snack tomorrow. Yum!

A big thanks to all the parents, teachers, and teacher helpers for giving the children such a wonderful time apple picking today! Its so much fun to see all the little ones on the bus (a treat for them in itself) and walking around snacking on the apples they picked. It’s one of our annual traditions at the Agassiz, and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
